SALISBURY — The new state secretary of commerce will speak at the N.C. Main Street Conference Friday in Salisbury.
Sharon Allred Decker, tapped by Gov. Pat McCrory to head the Department of Commerce, will speak at 10 a.m. Friday at the Meroney Theater.
Decker’s appearance raises the profile of the conference, which already has attracted the second-highest number of participants in the event’s 12-year history.
“I think it’s exciting that the secretary is coming,” said James Meacham, executive director for the Convention and Visitors Bureau. “This shows the importance to the state of the Main Street Program, and we are honored to have her in town.”
Friday’s keynote addresses are sold out. Today’s tours have some spaces available, and there are some breakout sessions that have spaces Thursday.
Conference registration runs from 1 to 6 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the F&M Trolley Barn, 125 E. Liberty St.
