Wingate scored the first 10 points and cruised to a 78-68 win over visiting Catawba in SAC action on Wednesday night.
Deion Turman scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs (12-5, 8-1), who shot 58 percent in the opening half to build a 43-22 edge at the break.
Catawba (5-12, 2-7) was led by Tyrece Little, who posted a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds and blocked five shots. Lee Martin tossed in 12 points, while Vismantas Marijosius (North Hills) scored 10 points.

Wingate’s women built an 18-point halftime lead and cruised to a 77-56 SAC win over Catawba on Wednesday.
It was a season-high offensive production for Wingate (10-9, 4-5).
Chloe Bully led the Indians (9-8, 5-4) with 16 points. Taylor May had 10 points and seven rebounds. Bully and May combined to hit 11-of-23 shots, but their teammates managed to go just 11-of-33 from the floor.

Livingstone suffered an 85-76 loss at St. Augustine’s.
Tyler Johnson led the Blue Bears with 20 points and hauled in seven rebounds.
Mark Thomas chipped in with 17 points.
St. Augustine’s led by 18 at the half. The closest the Blue Bears (14-5, 6-4) got in the second half was on a Thomas jumper that pulled them within nine with under a minute left.

Livingstone women

Livingstone’s women’s basketball team got 18 points from Kelcyn Masnurs, but it was far from enough in a 97-71 loss at St. Augustine’s on Wednesday in a CIAA game.
Manurs scored 14 points in the first half for the Blue Bears (7-12, 3-6) on her way to joining the 1,000-point club.
Ashley Walker had 14 for Livingstone, and Jasmine Murray added 12 points but St. Augustine’s (10-9, 6-4) was never in danger, building a 17-point lead in the first half.

North Rowan is at home tonight against Albemarle for a YVC doubleheader that will start at 6 p.m.
North Rowan’s surging girls (8-2 YVC) take on a dangerous Albemarle team that upset North Moore on Tuesday.
North’s boys are ranked fourth in 1A and are 10-0 in the YVC. North has lost to 2A No. 1 Cuthberson and 4A No. 9 Davie and a 6A Georgia school.
The Cavaliers (15-3) handed eighth-ranked Albemarle its only loss of the season in the teams’ first meeting.
“We’re looking at this game as a conference championship game, and I’m sure Albemarle is as well,” North coach Andrew Mitchell said. “It’s a very good rivalry and both teams will be ready.”
• East Rowan-Statesville and Salisbury-Thomasville were pushed back to Thursday by weather concerns.

Prep wrestling

West Rowan beat Carson 58-21.
Dakota Goodson, Zac Ridenhour, Walt Waggoner and Jacob Tomlin had pins for West, and Cody Eggers won a major decision. The Falcons also collected a number of forfeits.
Carson got a decision from Brady Argabright, and Garrettt Pell, Alex Lyles and Cody Brown registered pins.

College softball

Catawba was picked third in the preseason SAC poll of league coaches, behind Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson.
Catawba had three players picked for the preseason All-SAC second team — catcher Tara Gibbs, pitcher Emily Huneycutt and outfielder Amanda Terry.
