North Hills Christian School students won awards for a Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest.
Essays written by Alexis Mangus and Jalen Houston, students in Leslie Hunsucker’s fifth grade class, were recently selected as first- and third-place winners, respectively, by two independent panels of judges. The contest, sponsored by the Hefner VA Medical Center, was held to honor the memory of Martin Luther King Jr., and elementary students were asked to write 100-125 word essays titled, “The Meaning of Martin’s Dream.”
Alexis shares her first place win with Kayla Young from Sacred Heart, and Jalen shares third place with Nichol Warren from Cleveland Elementary and Liberty Koontz from Morgan Elementary. The students were invited to read their essays in front of family and friends at a ceremony on Jan. 14 held at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center.
