Catawba football signees to date include receivers LaRobert Mims (5-10, 175, Florida), Carlos Tarrats (5-9, 170, Florida) and Cayland Howard (6-1, 200, Darlington, S.C.); running back Ka’Darius McQueen (6-1, 195, Richlands); offensive linemen C.J. Cain (6-4, 280, Carson), Brandon Floyd (6-4, 250, South Meck) and Ryan Wilusz (6-4, 270, West Iredell); linebacker Montravius Evans (5-11, 195, Georgia); defensive lineman Aaron McCarley (6-2, 275, York, S.C.), and defensive backs Chris Carpenter (5-10, 170, Virginia), JaMarcus Moore (5-7, 165, Chester, S.C.), Malachia Hanes (6-0, 180, Butler) and Phillip George (6-0, 190).
George is a transfer from Coastal Carolina.

Prep basketball

Tonight is the final night of the regular season in the YVC, CCC, SPC and CPC. The NPC finished up on Thursday.
Conference tournaments start Monday.

Officiating

Anyone interested in umpiring middle school baseball should attend a meeting at East Rowan at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18.

Hurley Y basketball

Sign up before March 11 for the adult church basketball league at Hurley YMCA.
The coaches meeting will be March 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Practice dates are March 11 and 14.
Games are played on Mondays and Thursdays, starting March 18.
The cost is $425 per team and includes regular season and playoffs, trophies and T-shirts

7th-grade hoops

The China Grove girls defeated Corriher-Lipe 26-22 on Thursday.
Anne Marie Turney scored 12 points and Riley Corriher added eight in the winning effort for the Red Devils.
Corriher-Lipe got six points each from Taylor Wiggins and Jaylee Rollins. Hannah Yoder scored five.
• Southeast’s girls broke open a close game late in the third quarter and defeated Erwin 44-23 on Thursday. The second-place Patriots (7-1) were led by Olivia Gabriel with 27 points. Alexandra Linder scored 12 for the winners.
Erwin (4-4), which trailed by five points late in the third period, was led by Anna Shafer with eight points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots. Sydney Taylor had six points and four steals. Caroline Johnson and Mia Graham grabbed 11 and seven rebounds, respectively.
• Southeast’s unbeaten boys (8-0) took a 56-44 victory behind the scoring of Jamarius Hairston (16) and Jalian Williams (15). Elijah Moss and Cameron Prugh added eight and seven points, respectively.
Erwin (3-5) was led by Cole Perry with 16 points. Josh Ellis scored 14, and Bryson Sprinkle finished with 10.
• Caleb Mauldin’s 17 points and 17 rebounds helped lead the West Rowan Middle Bulldogs to a 43-33 win over Mooresville.
Owen White and Malcolm Ingram both had eight points for the Bulldogs (6-2), and Cole Myers contributed 10 rebounds.
West next plays Southeast on Tuesday.

College swimming

The Catawba swim teams posted six school records on Thursday night at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center. The men are seventh and the women are ninth after 14 events. The Championships will continue through Saturday.
