SALISBURY — West Virginia has requested the extradition of a man accused in several Rowan County break-ins so that he can be tried on more charges in that state.
Adolphus Bolen, 35, of White Road in Mount Ulla, was charged in October in Mercer County, W. Va., with unlawful taking of a vehicle, fleeing from an officer in a vehicle and fleeing from an officer on foot.
Bolen is already in custody at the Rowan County Detention Center. Locally, he faces several counts of felony larceny and related charges in connection with a string of home burglaries and battery thefts.
According to the West Virginia prosecuting attorney’s list of charges, Bolen is accused of unlawfully driving someone else’s vehicle without the owner’s consent and without the intent to steal it.
In addition, he is accused of fleeing both in a vehicle and on foot from patrolman N.J.W. Allen with the Bluefield City Police Department. The prosecuting attorney says the officer was attempting to arrest Bolen and gave a clear signal for him to stop.
In December, an additional charge was added for failure to appear in court. West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin then sent a letter to N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory on March 11 requesting Bolen’s extradition.
Bolen is scheduled for a district court appearance today to hear the charges from the governor’s warrant.
