Authorities say a Kannapolis man’s conscience did not save him from being charged with breaking into a Grants Creek Road home and removing a game console.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Roger Dale Sipes, 43, of the 500 block of West 22nd Street, Kannapolis, with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. Investigators say a woman at the home, located in the 200 block of Grants Creek Road, said some time between 3:25 and 5 p.m. on March 27 someone broke into her home through a back window. The only thing that was taken was an Xbox game console.
On April 1 the victim called a deputy to tell him Sipes returned the game console and told her he’d taken it. A report said Sipes pawned the game system at Pearl’s Pawn and Gun Shop in China Grove. He returned to the shop to get the system back and gave it to the victim. Sipes was charged on Monday and given a $5,000 secured bond. He remains in the Rowan County jail. Sipes was convicted in 2004 of common law forgery.
