Former Salisbury star Alisha Bradshaw helped Western Carolina’s women win the Southern Conference Track and Field Championships.
Bradshaw won the shot put (46-71/4) and discus (153-2) and placed second in the hammer throw (174-2).

College baseball

Tyler Kowalczyk (South Rowan) has started 15 games in the outfield for Wheeling Jesuit this season.
•Appalachian State’s Preston Troutman (East Rowan) had two hits and scored twice in an 8-7 loss to The Citadel on Sunday. Noah Holmes (East) went 1-for-5 and scored a run.
• Second-ranked Mount Olive finished off a series sweep of Pfeiffer with a 9-4 win on Sunday at Ferebee Field.
• Brett Huffman (West Rowan) had two hits and two RBIs for UNC Pembroke in Sunday’s 13-8 loss to Armstrong Atlantic.
• Lincoln Memorial won the SAC tournament on Sunday in Forest City by beating Carson-Newman 9-8. Lincoln Memorial (26-24) earned an automatic regional berth.

UNC Greensboro’s Roy Dixon shot 80 on Sunday in the Southern Conference Championsihps being held at Daniel Island, S.C.

Prep football

West Iredell announced Mike Natoli as its new head football coach.
Natoli, 35, has coached Richlands, a 2A school in eastern North Carolina, the past three seasons.

Major leagues

Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) closed out New York’s 2-0 win against Washington on Sunday with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Parnell struck out two and earned his second save of the season.

Intimidators baseball

Kannapolis split a doubleheader at Augusta on Sunday, losing 1-0 and winning 8-2.
Kannapolis wasted strong pitching by Euclides Leyer in the opener, but Michael Johnson drove in three runs in the nightcap to help Brandon Brennan get his first win of the season.
The Intimidators (9-9) are off today and start a series at home against the Rome Braves on Tuesday.

Travel basketball

The Kannapolis Komets won the Carolina Basketball Club’s Real Deal Showcase.
The Komets beat the Palmetto Pride (Lancaster, S.C.) 53-44 and beat the Salisbury Stingz 44-41 in Sunday’s championship game.
The Stingz had rolled over the Komets in a one-sided game earlier in the event.
The Komets roster includes Carson’s Kate Cole, Katherine Barringer, Alex Allen, Megan Gray and Jordan VanVoorhis; North Stanly’s Gentry Grubb; Cox Mill’s Taylor Sehm-Crowley and Kristen Stafford; A.L. Brown’s Bailey Vernon; First Assembly’s Riley Troutman, and North Meck’s Rita Venant.
Grubb, Cole and Allen led the scoring for the Komets.
West Rowan’s Khaila Hall scored 18 points for the Stingz in the championship game to lead all scorers.

Local golf

The McCanless Couples played a four-man Captain’s Choice on Sunday.
Winning team members were Don Goodnight, Phyllis Myers, Tommy Reynolds and Ricky Honeycutt.
The team of Harry Owens, Allen Drew, Tim Earnhardt and Treva Honeycutt finished second.
Frank Foster won longest putt, while Reynolds won closet to the pin.
