East Rowan beat Statesville 15-0 in three innings to clinch at least a tie for the NPC championship.
The Mustangs (10-2 NPC) secured the league’s No. 1 seed for the 3A state playoffs.
Steffi Sides and Courtney Lyerly went 3-for-3 in the abbreviated game.
Prep tennis

Salisbury’s doubles team of Brock Overcash and Clint Comadoll won the CCC tournament championship with a 6-1, 6-2 win over the West Davidson team of Alex Cheves-Grayson Taylor.
Overcash-Comadoll had a first-round bye. They beat Lexington’s Alex Cross-Colin Beamer 8-0 in the quarterfinals and topped Central Davidson’s Colin Rountree-Cory Lambeth 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals.
Salisbury’s Christopher Derrick-David Derrick doubles team lost 8-6 to Cheves-Taylor in the quarterfinals.
• In singles, Salisbury’s Spencer Storey also qualified for regionals with a third-place finish.
Storey won against Lexington’s Jack Davis 8-0 in the first round, won 8-3 against Central’s Daniel Dickens in the quarters, and lost 6-2, 6-2 to West Davidson’s Brett Moore in the semis.
Storey beat West Davidson’s Jaime Lopez 6-1, 6-3 for third.
Salisbury’s Hunter Carlton was eliminated 8-6 by Lopez in the quarterfinals.
• Carson defeated North Iredell 6-3 in NPC play.
Graham Purcell, Johnathan Martin, Casey Lucas, Matthew Martin and Tyler 0’Brien on in singles for the Cougars.
The Martins won a doubles match.
College baseball

Catawba won what was likely its season finale Tuesday in a 17-3 rout of Barton.
Cameron Cockman collected five of the Indians’ 19 hits, which was one short of a school record.
Blake Houston had three hits with a pair of doubles while Paul Kronenfeld drove in five runs. Garrett Furr had two hits and three RBI.
Senior Nick Lomascolo got a win in his final start in Newman Park to end the year 10-3. The Indians are 36-16 and will need plenty of help to reach the Southeast regional. The field won’t be selected for several more weeks.
Prep baseball

Dustin Ritchie drove in four runs on two hits to lead East Rowan to a 10-0, five-inning victory over winless Statesville.
Josh Gobble gave up only two hits and struck out four for the Mustangs (10-12, 8-4). Ty Beck had two hits and two RBIs. Michael Caldwell and Luke Setzer each had two hits. Also driving in runs were Hunter Brooks and Connor Johnson.
• Nick Boswell went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored as Davie (13-5, 5-4 CPC ) beat Reynolds 6-3. Garrett Nestor, Charlie Muchukot and Luke Martin each had two hits. Nestor drove in two runs.
Prep softball

Carson scored five runs in the fourth inning and beat West Rowan 10-4 in NPC action on Tuesday.
Lacee Hunsucker struck out 12 for the third-place Cougars (8-3 NPC).
Sidney Grkman homered and drove in four runs for Carson. Morgan Peninger had two doubles and three RBIs. Jana Bradshaw also had two doubles. Rachel Freeze had a double. Kayln Ellenburg had two RBIs.
For West, Cat Whitley had a triple and three RBIs for the fourth-place Falcons (6-5 NPC). Hunter Gibbons had a double.
• Salisbury softball beat Thomasville 13-2. Caroline Forbis got the win with nine strikeouts and no walks in six innings. Sallie Kate Meyerhoffer had two home runs . Megan Harmon, Katie Wolfe and Kate Murph had two hits each.
• Morgan Hendrix had four hits to lead Davie to a 13-4 CPC win against Reagan.
Prep golf

Salisbury shot 150 Tuesday in the Central Carolina Conference season finale to tie with West Davidson for the CCC championship at the County Club of Salisbury.
The Hornets had the lowest score of the day with West offering a 159. Salisbury’s Alex Austin shot 38 as did Joseph Rusher.
West Davidson’s Andrew Kahn was the season medalist with a 182 total. Salisbury’s Eric Edwards, who shot the lowest score Tuesday with a 33, had the year’s second-best score at 184. Edwards average score was 37.5 over six matches. Austin was third in the final standings with a 188. Rusher finished seventh with a 203. Abraham Post tied for 10th with a 208.
Prep soccer

East Rowan lost 3-0 to West Iredell in NPC soccer on Monday.
East trailed 1-0 at halftime against the league’s second-place team.
With regular goalie Kennedy Lambert out with an injured foot, Erin Hatley played in goal and had 10 saves.
East honored seniors Lindsey Gobble, Tara Wood, Natalie Earls, Kenzie LaFevers, Amy Shank and Amber Ritchie.
• Carson (6-5 NPC) won 1-0 against North Iredell on Monday. Katie Barringer scored the goal, and Alex Allen had the shutout.
Prep track

Salisbury High School competed in a three team meet on Tuesday, beating Thomasville but falling to Central Davidson.
Jaleesa Smoot (100, 200, 400) and Cheyenne Gloster (Disc) won for the lady Hornets.
Reasan Bledsoe (High Jump, Triple Jump, Long Jump), Keion Adams (Shot Put), Justin Ruffin (100) and Phillip Simons (1600) won for the Salisbury men.
Middle school golf

Sacred Heart shot 168 and beat Forsyth Country Day (182) at Bermuda Run West.
Michael Childress shot 2-under 35 for the Dolphins. Also scoring were Alex Antosek (40), Adam Habeeb (44) and Joseph Harrison (49).
Middle school tennis

Knox’s boys defeated Southeast 6-3.
Singles winners for Knox were Simon Post, Boothe Pfaff, Seth McLendon, and John Dunham.
Doubles winners for Knox were Simon Post with Boothe Pfaff and Seth McLendon with John Dunham.
Knox will host West Rowan on April 29th.

The Kannapolis Intimidators fell 5-3 to Rome after five errors and four unearned runs doomed them.
Jason Coats extended his hitting streak to 11 games, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Southeast girls soccer team defeated Knox 4-2 Tuesday. Late in the first half SEMS pulled ahead 3-2 and capped it off with another in the second. Farrah Jordan scored all four goals on assists by Abril Sanchez, Brienne Leach and Sarah Musselwhite.
• The Southeast boys soccer team defeated Knox 2-0 in a well-played defensive match by both teams.
Both goals were by Luis Araujo with an assist by Raunel Vasquez.
• Erwin won 6-0 against North Rowan Middle.
Wesley Porter had a hat trick for the Eagles. Erik Estrada scored two goals, and Brock Stewart added one. Erwin’s defense recorded its third shutout.

Ricky Moore (West Rowan) won the Novice Heavyweight division at the National Physique Committee’s North Carolina State Championships.
