Ryan James Anderson, 18, is receiving his Eagle Scout award today, Sunday, May 12, 2013, at First United Methodist Church of Salisbury. His Scoutmaster, David B. Wilson, is making the presentation.
As a member of Troop 442, Ryan has earned 21 merit badges. He has served as an Assistant Patrol Leader, Instructor and Senior Patrol Leader. He completed a 78-mile backpacking trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 2010. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and has earned awards including the Philmont Arrowhead, 50-Miler (Canoeing), 50-Miler (Backpacking), Snorkeling, BSA and Kayaking, BSA. Ryan has served on the staff at Camp John J. Barnhardt and on the staff of the National Youth Leader Training course.
A senior at Salisbury High School, Ryan has participated in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps for four years, in which he has received numerous academic awards and has been a member of the color guard and drill team. He also is a member of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury.
For his Eagle Scout leadership service project, Ryan planned and led a team of scouts and other volunteers in building a footbridge and making other improvements to the nature trail at Southeast Middle School.
Upon graduating from high school, Ryan will be entering the United States Army with plans to become a Blackhawk helicopter mechanic.
Ryan is the son of Robert and Lynn Anderson of Salisbury.
