Jesse Bickford recently made a rare double eagle on No. 6 at Crescent.
No. 6 is a 474-yard par 5. Bickford holed his second shot with a 3-Hybrid.
Double eagles (also known as albatrosses) are considerably rarer than aces. The odds against one are usually listed as 6 million-to-one.
• The McCanless Couples played a Captain’s Choice format on Sunday.
Winning team members were Walt and Kim Kincaid, Jeff Warren and Paul Hill Jr.
The team of Harry Owens, Jan Godwin and Ricky Honeycutt finished second.
Tabitha Warren won longest putt.
• Michael Childress won the National Junior Golf Tournament Callaway Qualifier at Lake Lure.
Childress shot 78-79 — 157 to win by four shots. He advances to the National Callaway Tournament in California.
Cornerback Jumal Rolle (Catawba) made a positive impression on secondary coach Donnie Henderson in the Buffalo Bills’ three-day rookie mini-camp.
The camp wrapped up Sunday.
Rolle, who signed with the Bills as undrafted free agent, finished off the weekend with an interception of first-round pick E.J. Manuel.
East Rowan is home this afternoon against Weddington in a third-round matchup in the 3A dual team state playoffs.
Appalachian State clobbered Gonzaga 13-3 on Sunday in Spokane, Wash., as Noah Holmes (East Rowan) hit a two-run homer.
Appalachian also won a late game Saturday at Gonzaga by a 6-2 score to split a doubleheader. Holmes had three hits, including a homer.
Catawba freshman pitcher Carley Tysinger was named to the all-region team.
Tysinger led the conference with 25 wins, a 1.21 ERA and 324 strikeouts, the second-highest strikeout total in SAC history.
• Anderson beat Lenoir-Rhyne 6-3 in Hickory to eliminate the Bears from Southeast Regional II play. Anderson will play Armstrong Atlantic in the super regional in Savannah, Ga.
Jason Coats had four hits, including a homer, to lead the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 10-7 win at Asheville on Sunday.
Junior Tennis Clinics will be offered at Catawba.
There’s a clinic tonight from 6 ot 7 for 12-under players.
There’s a clinc tonight from 7 to 8 for middle school and the challenge group.
Another round of clinics is set for Thursday.
