KANNAPOLIS — An Earley Street woman was charged with being intoxicated after authorities say she would not leave a Kannapolis property and slapped the hand of an officer. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Jami Renae Flint, 34, of Kannapolis on Monday with intoxicated and disruptive, and assault on a government official, both misdemeanors.
Flint showed up about 5 p.m. at a home in the 2800 block of China Grove Road in Kannapolis asking for a woman named Debbie. The homeowners, Robert and Barbara Simmons, told Flint no one by that name lived at the residence. The couple asked Flint to leave, said Capt. John Sifford.
Flint refused to leave and then told the couple she was there to look at a “baby calf.” The Simmons’ apparently have cows, but do not have a calf.
When officers arrived, Flint was sitting behind the property on the ground. Authorities smelled an odor of alcohol on Flint.
Sifford said Flint refused the officer’s questions as to why she was there. Her purse was open with a container of alcohol inside. The officer asked her if she’d been drinking and reached toward the bottle. She pushed the officer’s hand away, a report said.
Her father was called to retrieve her vehicle from the property. The homeowners declined to press charges against Flint for trespassing, Sifford said.
Flint has since been released under $1,500 secured bond.
