Livingstone men’s basketball coach James Stinson has been named CIAA Coach of the Week for the second time this season.
With their 68-56 win over Johnson C. Smith on Saturday, Stinson’s Blue Bears improved to 18-5 overall and 10-4 in the CIAA.
Currently on a four-game win streak, the Blue Bears will look to finish the regular season strong with two against Saint Augustine’s and Winston-Salem State.

Wonders win

A.L. Brown’s boys won their SPC tournament semifinal matchup with No. 3 seed Northwest Cabarrus in thrilling fashion on Tuesday at Concord’s Rimer Gym.
The second-seeded Wonders (19-6) prevailed 71-69. They were down two points with six seconds left when Derrick Copeland hit a 3-pointer as he was fouled.
Tydus Parks led the Wonders with 23 points. Copeland scored 20, and Mike Carr contributed a season-high 15.
The Wonders have reached the tournament finals without two starters. Braxton Waddell will miss the rest of the season with an injury, while Tevin Stark served the second game of a suspension on Tuesday.
The Wonders will play No. 4 seed Cox Mill for the tournament championship on Friday at Rimer. The Chargers knocked off top-seeded and top-ranked Concord 90-85.

Davie boys win

Davie’s third-seeded boys started slowly but rolled 74-54 against West Forsyth in a CPC first-round tournament game played on Tuesday in Mocksville.
Austin Hatfield scored a season-best 26 points for the War Eagles. He knocked down six 3-pointers.
Caleb Martin added 14 points, while Cody Martin scored 10. Taylor Hatfield and Kenyon Tatum had nine each.
“We were down seven early, but then Austin Hatfield had just a huge second quarter,” Davie coach Mike Absher said.
Darian Slade scored 16 for sixth-seeded West Forsyth.
Cody Martin reached the 1,000-point mark last Friday at North Davidson.
In the other CPC boys game, No. 4 R.J. Reynolds won 74-64 against No. 5 North Davidson.
Davie plays No. 2 seed Reagan at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in Mocksville. Davie (18-5) has lost twice to Reagan.
Davie’s girls play tonight in Mocksville at 6 p.m. against No. 1 seed West Forsyth.

Prep polls

In the NCPreps.com 1A poll, North Rowan moved up to third this week. The Cavaliers are still behind Winston-Salem Prep and unbeaten Plymouth.
Albemarle is ranked seventh in the poll, moving up one spot from a week ago.
• In the 2A boys poll, Kinston is at the top of the list, with Cuthbertson second. Central Davidson received votes.
• Concord is ranked No. 1 in the 3A boys poll, with Rocky Mount second. Statesville is fourth. A.L. Brown received votes.
• Undefeated Olympic is still the top dog in the 4A boys poll. Mount Tabor is sixth. Reagan is eighth. Davie received votes.
• In the 1A girls poll, unbeaten Lejeune is still No. 1. South Davidson is ranked eighth.
• In the 2A girls poll, High Point Andrews is the new No. 1. Thomasville received votes.
• In the 3A girls poll, Chapel Hill is the new No. 1, with Hickory second. West Rowan is sixth. North Iredell is 10th.
• In the 4A girls poll, Myers Park is still No. 1. Raleigh Millbrook, Southeast Raleigh and Fayetteville Seventy-First also are unbeaten.
West Forsyth received votes.

North Hills hoops
The North Hills varsity boys beat Covenant Classical 77-55 in the conference tournament on Tuesday.
Leonard Murdock led the Eagles with 25 points and seven rebounds. Chris Taylor had 24 points and five rebounds.
The Eagles will play in the championship game at Piedmont Community Charter School on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
• The undefeated North Hills middle school girls will play at home today at 4 p.m. against Park Ridge in the semifinals of the PAC-8 tournament
• The North Hills varsity girls are at home Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against Piedmont Community Charter School in the conference championship game.
• The North Hills jayvee boys will play at home on Thursday at 5 p.m. against Piedmont Community Charter School in the conference championship gme.

College softball

Belmont Abbey freshman Samantha Jacobs (North Rowan) has pitched very well in her last two starts, throwing two complete games and striking out 16.
• Catawba’s Carley Tysinger earned SAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second straight week.

College baseball

Nick Lomascolo, who hurled Catawba to a 1-0 win against Wingate, was honored as SAC Pitcher of the Week. Lomascolo (3-0) has struck out 27 and has an ERA of 0.44.
Catawba is ranked seventh nationally, while UNC Pembroke is ranked 12th.
• Jon Gray went 3-for-4 for Pfeiffer in a 6-2 loss on Tuesday to Newberry.

7th-grade girls

Southeast defeated West Rowan Middle 40-18.
Olivia Gabriel scored 17 points for the Patriots. Taylor Hairston had eight, and Maren Shumaker scored six.
• Erwin led by 13 points in the third quarter and held off Mooresville 28-27.
Ann Shafer paced the Eagles (5-4) with 10 points and nine rebounds. Sydney Taylor scored seven points. Mia Graham added five points and 10 boards. Caroline Johnson also had 10 rebounds, and Hollie Harrison had five assists.
Mooresville (6-3) was led by Cassidy Jackson with 11 points, nine in the fourth-quarter rally. Taylor Cullen scored nine for the Red Imps, and Porsha Beatty added five.

7th-grade boys

Erwin’s boys triumphed 48-29 over Mooresville behind Cole Perry’s 24 points.
Josh Ellis scored 14 points for the Eagles (4-5), and Chase Whitley added five.
Mooresville (2-7) was led by Treye Gunnings with 12 points.
• Jailen Williams scored 14 points and Jamarius Hairston had 13 as Southeast (9-0) pulled away in the second half for a 56-42 win over West Rowan Middle (6-3).
Elijah Moss scored 10, Cole Sifford had eight, and Cameron Prugh and Jay Wilkerson scored six each.
Caleb Mauldin poured in 30 points and Owen White had 10 for West. West next plays North on Thursday, while Southeast takes on China Grove.

Local golf

In the eGolf Tour’s Palmetto Hall Championship at Hilton Head, S.C., Salisbury’s Frank Adams III finished 10th and won $2,300.
Adams shot 71-71-72-72 — 286 to finish 2-under.
Will Collins (Salisbury) shot 72-72-73-75 — 292. He finished at 4-over 292. He tied for 35th and won $1,212.50.

Mixed Martial Arts

Salisbury’s Willie “Warhead” Hosch won by unanimous decision over Steven “The Guvna” Govan in his MMA professional debut Saturday night in Richmond.
Fighting as a welterweight, the 170-pound Hosch prevailed despite suffering a broken left thumb.
during the three-round, 15-minute bout. Govan (2-7) was dropped to the canvas four times and cut above his left eye.
Hosch will wear a cast for four weeks while training for his second pro fight. He’ll meet Aaron Freedman of New York in a lightweight match (155 pounds) April 5 at the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City. Hosch, who is self-managed, is seeking sponsorship assistance.
