Sleet, then snow, then freezing rain.
That’s the possible sequence of winter weather that could hit Rowan County this morning.
The National Weather Service issued a weather outlook Thursday that warns freezing rain is possible at daybreak, which cause problems on highways.
The N.C. Department of Transportation was preparing crews and equipment to respond to any ice or snow that may accumulate on roads and bridges overnight and into the morning hours. Crews across the state will be on alert and ready to respond if snow or ice begins to accumulate.
They have attached plows and spreaders to their trucks, and topped off their fuel tanks to ensure they are prepared.
The precipitation is forecast to taper off during the afternoon.
The worst of the weather should stay in the mountains and foothills, but the weather service says drivers should be aware of tricky conditions on the road.
The high temperature is only expected to reach into the upper 30s, and then push into the 40s on Saturday.
Sunny weather is back in Sunday’s forecast, with a high in the 60s.
