The East Rowan Helping Hands Clothes Drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 20 at East Rowan High School.
Students at East Rowan High School have been collecting clothes and shoes of all sizes, from infant to adult.
The items collected will be offered to people in need from across Rowan County.
Cost of admission will be $1, and each person attending will be given two brown grocery bags for collecting the clothes they choose. No other charges are involved.
The admission money collected will go toward The Family Crisis House in Salisbury.
“We have baby to older adult clothing — coats, school uniforms, scrubs, shoes and many miscellaneous items,” said one of the organizers, Christie Sparger.
Food Lion is donating the brown bags.
Donations for the Family Crisis House will also be accepted.
Drop-off points for the clothing donations are at East Rowan YMCA and East Rowan High School, near the office.
Clothes or items such as belts and shoes should be in good condition and clean. Items will be collected until April 15.
Any clothing items left over will be donated to Rowan Helping Ministries, Nazareth Children’s Home or other organizations that might need them.
In addition to East Rowan High students, who have dubbed their group “ER Helping Hands,” the Junior Civitans at Erwin Middle School also are helping with the clothes drive.
“We have a lot of items and hope to get a lot of people,” Sparger says. “All the stuff is nice and in great shape.”
