This Earth Day, why not do something fun with the family?
On Monday, April 22, the Center for the Environment at Catawba College and Town Creek Commons Chick-Fil-A will host a “Growing Green Kids” family night so that parents and children can learn ways to take care of the environment together. The event, which runs from 5-8 p.m., will focus on educating families about carbon dioxide levels and what they can do to help improve air quality.
Children will be invited to make seed pods with clay, peat moss and wildflower seeds. The pods can be used to grow a small patch of annual flowers anywhere. Meanwhile, Catawba’s Green Education Outreach (GEO) team will talk to parents about how they can use carpooling, Salisbury’s greenway, Rowan’s new mass transportation system, and the Center’s no-idling program to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The team will also inform homeowners about native plants with high CO2 intake that make good additions to any lawn.
Chick-Fil-A Marketing Manager Dustin Wilson said the store is excited about the family night and looks forward to helping families and customers learn how to be good stewards of the environment. The event is open to the community, and all citizens are welcome to come and learn about how they can help improve air quality.
