West Rowan shortstop/catcher Hunter Teeter was named MVP of the F&M Bank Classic.
The senior had three strong games. He had a two-run double against Concord, a three-run homer against A.L. Brown and two hits, two steals and several nice defensive plays against Mount Pleasant.
Carson, West Rowan and South Rowan went 3-0 in the event. Salisbury was 2-1 and East Rowan was 1-2. Rowan teams won 12 of the 15 games.
East coach Brian Hightower accepted the Classic Cup.
In addition to Teeter, six players from each county were named all-tournament by tournament officials. They are Connor Bridges (Carson), Ben Gragg (Carson), Eric Tyler (South), Nick Collins (West), Josh Gobble (East), Brian Bauk (Salisbury), Philip Perry (Robinson), Hunter Kocher (Robinson), Ryan Austin (A.L. Brown), Colby Readling (Concord), Jacob Warner (Mount Pleasant) and Tanner Bigham (NW Cabarrus).
• East Davidson won 10-0 against Ledford on Saturday.
Braxton Shetley and Cataba signee Avery Bowles combined on a two-hitter and struck out 10.
Ryan McIntyre homered.

• West Davidson lost 5-4 to Asheboro. Justin Freeman and Zach Queen had two hits each.

Catawba baseball

Catawba swept SAC opponent Lincoln Memorial 7-3 and 6-5 in eight innings at Newman Park on Saturday’s Senior Day.
The Indians (30-13, 18-6) won the nightcap when Chris Dula’s walkoff single scored Keaton Hawks.
Blake Houston (South Rowan) had four hits in the nightcap. Dula had three hits and two RBIs.
John J. Tuttle (A.L. Brown) threw eight strong innings to lead the Indians in the opener.
Tuttle (8-4) fanned eight and walked none. Julio Zubillaga (Carson) had a three-run double. Hawks and Paul Kronenfeld homered.

Catawba softball

Catawba swept SAC co-leader Mars Hill 2-0 and 7-3 on the road on Saturday.
Carley Tysinger (22-6) won the first game as the starter and the nightcap in relief.
Tara Gibbs drove in four runs. Amanda Terry scored three and knocked in three.

Catawba lacrosse

Meredith Jones scored six goals to lead Catawba’s women’s lacrosse team to a 17-10 win against Young Harris.

Jayvee baseball

Carson won 10-1 against the Greater Cabarrus Homeschool Stallions. Noah Jarrett had three hits for the Stallions. Caleb Threadgill doubled.
• West Rowan’s jayvees won 10-4 against the Stallions.
Hunter Shepherd had two hits for the Stallions. Josh Holt doubled. Josh Endicott, Tyler Hartsell, Travis Cone and Dalton Lankford had hits.
• The Stallions will complete a suspended game against East’s jayvees on Monday at Staton Field.

Intimidators lose

The Kannapolis Intimidators lost 3-2 at Lakewood on Saturday. Kannapolis (2-1) had the tying run thrown out at the plate to end the game. Kale Kiser tried to score from second on Jason Coats’s single.

Local golf

Greg Creeger made a hole-in-one at Corbin Hills on No. 5 on Saturday.
He used a 5-iron on the 174-yard hole. David Dorsett, Dale Plummer and Chuck Valley witnessed the feat.
•After two rounds of the Irish Creek Collegiate, UNC leads at 1-under. Davidson is second, four shots back. N.C. State at UNC Wilmington are nine shots back.
Davidson’s Richard Fountain shot 66 in the second round and is the individual leader.
