KANNAPOLIS — Hunter Teeter had a taste of high school greatness with a three-run blast over the left field fence in an 11-8 victory over A.L. Brown in the second day of Easter Classic at CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Saturday and the West Rowan Falcons finished the Easter tournament with a 3-0 record after beating Mount Pleasant on Saturday.
Teeter won’t forget the experience of watching his homer go out.
“Hitting that home run is my proudest moment of the tournament.” said Teeter.
All six of the West Rowan seniors have had that same feeling at some point during the event.
“Playing at a professional ball field is every little kid’s dream” said West’s Bubba McLaughlin. “It takes you a second to put it all in perspective.”
McLaughlin has played well every year he has participated in the Easter Classic. Taylor Garczynski and Justin Evans each had shining moments by beating Northwest Cabarrus during their sophomore year.
“It was amazing beating Northwest with the great Corey Seager,” said Evans. “Beating Northwest was huge because I was facing a future first-round draft pick.”
Garczynski stated. “Corey Seager is currently a player with the Los Angeles Dodgers (organization).”
The final two seniors are getting to experience the Easter Classic for the second and final time and they’re making the most of it.
“Playing in a professional stadium is something else,” said second baseman Jamie Spurlin, saying the same thing as all the players from each of the five county teams. “I feel like the real deal. Being at bat with all the fans watching is the most memorable thing for me.”
Cody McNeely pointed out, “I’ll never forget it.”
Clearly, the Easter Classic is something every local baseball player looks forward to and is something they will never forget.
Especially this year when West Rowan, Carson and South Rowan all finished undefeated.
