SALISBURY — The city and Salisbury Housing Authority will present the latest draft of the West End Transformation Plan to the community Monday night before submitting the roughly 80-page document by a June 29 deadline.
The city must submit the plan by the end of the month, a requirement after winning a $170,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant from the federal government two years ago. But officials working on the plan haven’t decided when to re-apply for an $18 million implementation grant that would put the plan into action.
The West End initiative failed to win an implementation grant last year from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and a consultant who recently studied the draft said she thought it needed more work to be competitive, said Janet Gapen, the city’s interim planning director.
Gapen and housing authority Executive Director Sam Foust will present the draft at 6 p.m. Monday at the Livingstone College Events and Hospitality Center, located at the corner of West Monroe and Partee streets. Refreshments will be served.
Residents of the West End, Civic Park, partner agencies, interested citizens and the public are invited.
