NC House unveils rest of 2-year budget plan

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina House has provided more details about its proposed state government budget for the next two years.

The plan creates more differences with the Senate and Gov. Pat McCrory heading into negotiations later this month.

House Republicans unveiled the entire plan Sunday night, two days after budget subcommittees debated and voted on most of the proposal.

The measure would provide $10 million to compensate victims of North Carolina’s former forced sterilization program. The Senate didn’t provide the money. McCrory asked for money for the eugenics compensation.

House GOP leaders also wouldn’t give pay raises this coming year for state employees and teachers, just like the Senate. McCrory wants 1 percent pay raises. The House would give five extra paid days of leave.
