RALEIGH (AP) — More acrimonious debate is likely in the North Carolina House over a proposed state government budget plan although Republicans have a comfortable margin in the chamber to pass the measure.
The House scheduled the first of two required votes Wednesday on a state spending plan through mid-2015. The proposal would spend more than $20 billion in the year starting July 1 and sets aside $400 million for budget emergencies and government building repairs.
The House would spend more than the Senate plan approved three weeks ago on the public schools but less on the University of North Carolina system.
Democrats have complained the House budget is debilitated by a proposed tax overhaul that would result in less money for education and other services.
