Rowan County’s American Legion baseball team lost 13-7 to Randolph County at Asheboro’s McCrary Park on Wednesday.
Rowan (7-6) scored first on Justin Evans’ first Legion homer, but Randolph knocked out Rowan starter Clint Veal in the second, using walks, HBPs and a three-run homer by Avery Jackson to bat around, score seven times and take a 7-1 lead.
Rowan overcame that huge deficit thanks to stout relief pitching by Brandon White, key hits by Nathan Fulbright and Ashton Fleming, and a flurry of Randolph errors and pulled even at 7-all. But Randolph (11-2) broke the tie with a three-run sixth, and then pulled away.
Fleming and Chance Bowden had three hits each.
Rowan is off tonight.

Friday’s scheduled game at Mocksville was canceled.
• Southern Rowan (7-4) plays Mooresville Post 66 at Lake Norman Friday.
• Kannapolis (5-5) swept the Mooresville Legends 5-4 and 3-1 on Wednesday at the Northwest Cabarrus Field.
In the opener, Austin Mace had three hits for Kannapolis, and Ryan Austin had two. Phillip Faggart pitched into the sixth inning, and D.J. Smith got the win in relief.
Wesley Ludwig pitched well for the Legends (2-8). Kane Sutton hit a two-run homer. Austin Hartness had three hits. Rhett Hellard and James Sutton had two each.
The game was decided when Zeb Ritchie’s bunt was thrown away in the seventh.
In the nightcap, Mace was the story. He pitched a three-hitter and fanned 12 to win a tight duel with Jack Carty. Carty held Kannapolis to one hit. Max Berrios had the hit for Kannapolis.
Kannapolis’ scheduled game with Mocksville is off.

West Rowan’s football program is tied for seventh nationally in total wins over the last five seasons.
The Falcons are 70-7, including three state titles.
Tarboro is the N.C. wins leader for the five-year time frame with a 72-7 mark and is tied for third nationally. Tarboro has won three state titles in that period.
Matthews Butler is tied for seventh nationally with a 70-4 mark and three titles.
The national leader for the last five years is Clairton, Pa., with a 78-2 record. Clairton has won 63 straight games and four straight state titles.

West Rowan won 11-4 against South Rowan on Wednesday.
Brett Graham pitched five strong innings for the win. Noah Teeter, Hunter Shepherd, Micah Marsh, Tyler Poteat and Hunter Bernhardt had two hits apiece.Shepherd and Kacey Otto had doubles, and Teeter hit his first homer.
West is 4-0 in division play and is at Davidson on Friday.

Salisbury’s Brian Bauk (2A), Carson’s Dillon Atwell and Northwest Cabarrus’ Tanner Bigham (3A) and Davie’s Matt Vernon (4A) were named to the NCPreps.com All-State baseball teams for their classification.

Concord’s Darren Black and Statseville’s Josh Gaither were named to play in this summer’s East-West All-Star Game in Greensboro.

• Southpaw Nick Lomascolo (Catawba) has signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was their 34th-round pick.
• Kannapolis (23-41) lost to visiting Augusta 5-3 on Wednesday. Michael Johnson had two doubles for the Intimidators. Eric Grave had three hits and knocked in two.
• Corey Seager (NW Cabarrus) is batting .282 with four homers and 22 RBIs for the Great Lakes Loons. He’s driven in at least one run in each of his last six games.
• Quad Cities pitcher Jordan (J.J.) Jankowski (Catawba) was named to play in the Midwest League All-Star Game. Jankowski has fanned 46 while walking 12 and has a 2-0 record.

The West Rowan-Davie Alumni football game will be held at Davie County High on Saturday, June 29, at 7 p.m.

A U.S. military team will play the Rowan Patriots on Friday at 7 p.m. at Staton Field. Admission is $10.
The game is a fundraiser to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

The softball game between the police and fire departments of Landis and China Grove has been rescheduled for June 25 at 6 p.m. at South Rowan

In the eGolf Tour’s Spring Creek Classic in Gordonsville, Va., Salisbury’s Frank Adams III shot a first-round 68, with a 32 on the back side, and is tied for eighth.
Will Collins (Salisbury) shot 72 and is tied for 40th.
• Nick Lyerly won the 14-15 age division in the Tarheel Youth Golf Association event held at Cedarbrook Country Club in Elkin.
Lyerly shot a 2-under 70 and qualified for the TYGA Tournament of Champions that will be played in August.
• East Rowan’s Logan Shuping shot 79-74 — 153 for third place in the Carmel Junior Invitational held in Charlotte.

Hurley YMCA Warriors competed in the AAU district qualifier held in Cornelius.
Top-16 finishers qualified for the national qualifier at Charlotte on June 27-30. Top-three finishers received medals.
