As of 7:15 a.m., Duke Energy reports there are still 5,274 people without power in Rowan County, and 3824 in Cabarrus County.
Other hard-hit counties include Forsyth, with 24,515 without power, and Rockingham County, with 12,577. Nearby Stanly County still reports 4362 outages.
A press release from Union Power Cooperative reports progress in restoring power:
“Crews continue to work to clear up the 7800 remaining outages as day breaks. Areas still affected are the Harrisburg and Mount Pleasant areas of Cabarrus County, the Locust area of Stanly County, and northern Union County. Approximately 3,000 of these outages have been due to a transmission line in Cabarrus County that suffered significant damage during the storm.
All crews are still working in these areas to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”
Union supplies some power to Rowan County.

EnergyUnited reports that as of 5:15 a.m. ET, approximately 5,400 members of the cooperative remain without power. At its peak Thursday evening, the cooperative had upwards of 16,000 storm-related outages in its system. Iredell County and the Madison area are the areas with the most work left to be completed, accounting for well over half of the remaining outages.
“Our crews have worked through the night in an effort to restore power to as many members as possible, as quickly as possible,” said H. Wayne Wilkins, EnergyUnited CEO. “Our efforts will be aided today by the arrival of crews from neighboring electric cooperatives. We are still on target for a Friday evening time frame for the restoration of power to the majority of our members, with the exception of a few areas that we hope to restore by early Saturday.”
Throughout the night there were 40 crews — 24 from EnergyUnited, six contract crews and 10 tree service crews — made up of two to five team members each, working on storm restoration. An additional 15 crews from two neighboring electric cooperatives will be on site this morning to supplement the current response team.
EnergyUnited members are still being asked to call 1-800-EUNITED to report their outages as this will assist the cooperative in pinpointing the outage areas.
