SALISBURY — Six Rowan-Salisbury School System students have been chosen to attend the 2013 session of the Governor’s School of North Carolina.
The session begins on Sunday, June 16, and will run through July 20.
The Rowan-Salisbury participants and the area of their concentration are:
• Keaton M. Brower from Jesse Carson High School – Theater
• Katelyn L. Buffett from East Rowan High School – Social Science
• Jonathan N. Childs from East Rowan High School – Natural Science
• Savannah V. Deal from Jesse Carson High School – Theater
• Lyndsey N. Moore from Jesse Carson High School – Mathematics
• Victor M. Pereira from East Rowan High School – Mathematics
Governor’s School East is located on the campus of Meredith College in Raleigh, and Governor’s School West is located on the campus of Salem College in Winston-Salem. Four hundred students are chosen to attend Governor’s School at each of the two locations.
Governor’s School is a five-week summer residential program for intellectually gifted high school rising senior students. Exceptions are made for rising juniors in selected performing and visual arts areas.
The curriculum focuses on exploring ideas and concepts in each of the disciplines offered. No credits, tests or grades are involved.
The Public Schools of North Carolina, the State Board of Education, and the Department of Public Instruction through the Exceptional Children Division administer the program.
A board of governors, appointed by the State Board of Education, acts as an advisory body.
