KANNAPOLIS — Two families with 11 people were in a home when fire broke out early Saturday morning, but everyone made it outside safely.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, the Kannapolis Fire Department responded to a call about the structure fire at 1103 Horton Ave.
Fire units arrived less than four minutes later to find heavy smoke and fire conditions in the front half of the home, extending up into the attic. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines to extinguish the blaze.
Once the bulk of the fire was out, additional crews searched each room to ensure the occupants were safely out of the home.
Everyone had been able to escape before the arrival of fire units.
Cabarrus County EMS responded to the scene to provide medical monitoring for the on scene fire crews. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters remained on scene until after 6 a.m. with the Cabarrus County Chapter of the American Red Cross, which provided aid to the burned out families.
The house sustained significant damage. The cause appeared to be electrical.
