SALISBURY — One person was sent to the hospital with minor injuries following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Fulton and Council streets Saturday afternoon.
David Hagy, 58, of 100 W. Innes St., Apt 5C, Salisbury, was traveling west on West Council Street in a Nissan sport utility vehicle when he failed to stop for a Ford station wagon heading up Fulton Street.
The driver of the station wagon, Gary Barnhardt, 34, of 108 N. Main St., Apt 1, China Grove, was traveling south on North Fulton.
The incident occurred at 3:32 p.m.
“Hagy failed to see Barnhardt” and “pulled into the path of the station wagon,” said Salisbury Master Police Officer D.P. Fleming.
Barnhardt was taken by ambulance to Rowan Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.
“He had very minor injuries,” Fleming said.
The Ford struck the Nissan in the right rear. The Nissan overturned and came to rest on its roof.
Hagy, music director and conductor of the Salisbury Symphony, had no visible injuries and managed to get out on his own.
Hagy was issued a citation for failure to yield for stop sign.
The two vehicles were both towed.
Betty Lyman, who lives on Council, just yards from where the accident took place, called 911.
Lyman said she was sitting in her den doing church work when she heard a loud boom.
It was so loud she thought someone may have hit her car or even her neighbor’s car.
She went to the door to see what happened.
“I told them there was a wreck at Council and Fulton,” she said.
Lyman said the dispatcher told her help was on the way.
Another neighbor, Sharran Mixson, rushed out of his home after he heard the crash.
Mixson saw Hagy crawl out of his car.
“He seemed pretty shook-up,” Mixson said.
In addition to the Salisbury Police, Salisbury city fire, Rowan EMS and Rowan Rescue responded.
The rescue squad happened to be in the area.
