SALISBURY — A woman was killed in Salisbury on Sunday morning. Authorities said the incident remains under investigation.
According to a spokesperson with the Salisbury Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home at 801 Park Avenue at approximately 9:07 a.m.
First-response emergency personnel attempted unsuccessfully to provide life-saving medical assistance to Nohemy Hernandez-Laines, 35, who succumbed to her wounds there at the scene.
On Monday, several of Hernandez-Laines’ family members were gathered at the Park Avenue residence.
Her sister described Hernandez-Laines as a woman who loved to dance and to sing.
“She was always smiling,” the sister said. “She was a really happy person.”
Hernandez-Laines spent Saturday evening celebrating a family member’s wedding. According to her sister, Hernandez-Laines returned home around 8 p.m.
Neither the cause or estimated time of Hernandez-Laines’ death was disclosed by law enforcement.
Hernandez-Laines leaves behind two sons, 13, and 18.
The investigation for Hernandez-Laines’ killer remains open. Anyone with any information on the incident is encouraged to contact the Salisbury Police Department.
As more information becomes available, it will be reported.
Sunday’s incident marked the first homicide investigation for Salisbury in 2023.
However, two other people have been killed in Rowan County this year.
Deputies found Matthew Tyler King, 23, suffering from a gunshot wound at the residence located at 10616 Old Beatty Ford Road in Rockwell in May. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Otha Keith Sherrill, 49, was shot and killed just outside of Salisbury city limits near Harrison Road in July.
