STATESVILLE — A Rowan County man was charged with death by distribution in Iredell County after police say he provided fentanyl to a man who died of an overdose.
The victim was found in March of 2022 after deputies and narcotics detectives with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the 100 block of Summertree Drive near Troutman in reference to a possible narcotics overdose, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. There, they found the victim dead.
Toxicology results recently returned from the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office that indicated the death was from a fentanyl overdose. The release attributed the late determination to an extended wait time at the state lab.
Detectives began to investigate the incident and attempted to identify witnesses who had any contact with the victim prior to his death. Detectives examined cell phone and social media records as part of the investigation.
Timothy Franklin Wing, 32, was identified by detectives as the man who allegedly provided the victim with the fentanyl that led to his death. Wing is a Rowan County resident who lives in the 200 block of Planters Lane.
Wing was charged with felony overdose death by distribution. The charge was a felony due to Wing’s prior criminal record. He has previously been convicted of two counts of selling a schedule II controlled substance and possession of a schedule II controlled substance in 2019 and possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to sell in 2018, according to N.C. Department of Adult Correction information.
Wing was arrested on Friday and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was given a $250,000 bond by Magistrate Callejas.
