ROCKWELL — A barn fire just outside of Rockwell destroyed the building after a fire official said that the smoke was visible “all the way in Granite Quarry”.
Firefighters from multiple departments throughout Rowan County were able to extinguish the blaze after arriving to find it had engulfed the building, according to a fire official on the scene. Rockwell Rural Fire Department was the first on the scene.
The fire started around 12:30 on Saturday at the outbuilding in the 100 block of Lauren Lane.
No one was hurt in the fire or response, according to the official. The fire did extend into a few vehicles that were in the barn or nearby, but the official said that firefighters were able to extinguish those without much further incident.
Because the barn was completely on fire by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the cause of the blaze was not immediately evident. What could have caused it is under investigation.
Faith, Rockwell, Granite Quarry, West Liberty, South Salisbury and Gold Hill fire departments all assisted with the firefighting effort and Rowan Rescue was on scene to assist the residents and treat any potential injuries.
