SALISBURY — It’s that time of year again, when the sugar plum fairies and all the majestic characters of the Nutcracker populate imaginations of Christmas cheer.

Friday night, the curtains will be drawn in the auditorium at Salisbury High School for a community performance of the famous Christmastime ballet.

Partnering with Communities in Schools, the Triple Threat Dance & Charm Company will be bringing the ballet to life for audiences during a two-night run.

Triple Threat CEO Krystal Stukes said that her students had undertaken the project in September and that Friday and Saturday’s performances will represent the culmination of those efforts.

Stukes’ honors and proficient dance students tackled the project head-on, going to various Rowan-Salisbury Schools elementary schools to choreograph routines with young would-be performers.

The project is a group effort with Communities in Schools, which helps Triple Threat identify students to be in the program. This year, the performers will comprise students from Hurley, Hanford Dole, Isenberg and North Rowan elementary schools. 

Stukes said that the Mighty Marching Hornets Band from Salisbury would be providing musical accompaniment during the performance and that the SHS arts department had lent a hand in creating props and the stage design.

The Rowan Arts Council joined Communities in Schools in sponsoring the event, which was also assisted by the Community Arts Foundation.

Doors open for the Friday performance at 5:30 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m.

An encore performance will be held on Saturday. Doors open for that showing at 4:30 p.m. for a 6 p.m. start time.
