Friday’s games …

WINSTON-SALEM — Bailee Goodlett became the fifth North Rowan girls basketball player to score 1,500 points in Friday’s non-conference game at Parkland.

Goodlett made a shot in the lane in the first quarter to achieve the milestone. She finished with 25 points to push her career total to 1,517.

She achieved the milestone in a victory as the Cavaliers blew out 4A Parkland 73-35.

North (2-0) had a comfortable 43-16 lead at halftime and went up 40 late in the contest for a running clock.

Goodlett, who had three assists, will move up to No. 3 on the North’s scoring list quickly. Megan Honeycutt (1,555) and Goodlett’s former teammate Hannah Wilkerson (1,589) aren’t too far ahead of her.

Senior Brittany Ellis continued her hot start to the season with 27 points, one short of her career high.

She scored 10 in the first quarter and had 18 by halftime. Ellis made five 3-pointers and also handed out four assists.

Dasia Elder is also shooting the ball extremely well and made four 3-pointers for the second straight game. She scored 14.

Bloom Goodlett added seven points for the Cavaliers.

Kriststyle Stockton didn’t score but had another big rebounding game with a team-high 10.

MOUNT ULLA— West Rowan’s girls basketball beat people by frightening scores on the way to 31 straight wins last season.

The Falcons had a high of 92 points in 2022-23 on the way to breaking the school record for points per game (73.7) and they held teams to as few as nine points.

West hasn’t dropped off any and battered Lake Norman Charter 93-11 in Friday’s South Piedmont Conference opener for both teams. The Falcons led 60-6 at halftime, so the entire second half was played with a running clock.

The win was the 177th for head coach Ashley Poole, who will likely roll past 200 this season.

West (2-0, 1-0) had two career highs while sprinting to its 33rd straight win. Reserve Aubrey Martin scored eight, while freshman Lydia Wilson scored six.

West got 21 from Lauren Arnold, who surpassed 1,100 career points.

Mya Edwards had 17, one short of her career best.

Tiara Thompson scored 15, while De’Mya Phifer had 14. Emma Clarke and Makaylah Tenor added six each.

Next for the Falcons is a big test at home on Tuesday against 4A powerhouse Lake Norman. Lake Norman (6-0) owns some lopsided wins against overmatched teams but also has played some good road games early to get ready for the Falcons. It should be quite a game.

SALISBURY — Salisbury’s girls basketball team had the 3s, but Robinson had the trees.

Robinson, with 6-foot-4 Ohio State signee Ella Hobbs, and her 6-foot-3 sister Camri Hobbs, beat Salisbury 57-48 on Friday in a marquee non-conference game.

“We got in bad foul trouble,” Salisbury head coach Lakai Brice said. “But we fought. We played hard to the end.”

MaKayla Noble got her fourth foul in the third quarter. Shamya Arnold had four fouls in the second quarter, Jamyrah Cherry fouled out in the third.

That’s Salisbury’s top three scorers. All were burdened with the weight of the whistles, so it was an uphill fight.

Arnold made 3-pointers back to-back in the second quarter to keep the Hornets in it. Robinson (1-1) led 32-23 at the half.

The Hornets (0-3) had a strong run to start the second half, scoring nine in a row at one point. Cherry hit two 3s during that burst, and the Hornets tied the game at 34-all on  her second one.

When Noble made a pull-up jumper, the Hornets led 36-35, but Robinson moved back ahead 43-39 heading to the fourth, and the Bulldogs were able to hold off Salisbury’s last charge.

Noble scored 14 to lead the Hornets. Arnold scored a career-best 13. Cherry had 10.

Robinson      17    15    11    14   — 57

Salisbury       15     8     16     9    — 48

SALISBURY — Noble 14, Arnold 13, Cherry 10, Evans 8, Spruill 2, Zapata 1.

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s girls basketball team lost 47-27 to Concord on Friday.

It was a feel-good win for the Spiders, who didn’t get any South Piedmont Conference victories in 2022-23.

It was another learning experience for a rebuilding Carson team. The 27 points were a season high for the Cougars, but the stat sheet was still a long way from what head coach Chloe Monroe is hoping for. Carson shot 16 percent, didn’t make any 3-pointers and went 7-for-17 on free throws.

After scoring seven in the first half, the Cougars (0-3, 0-1) put up 20 after halftime. They will keep working.

Caylee Snow scored seven points, Rylee Hedrick had six points and eight rebounds. Brooklyn McBride scored five.

Eight Cougars scored. Several of them scored their first points of the season.

Emma Carpenter didn’t get any shots to fall but had nine rebounds and four steals.

Concord got 14 points from Myajah Nix, 11 from Kaylin Williams, nine from Natalie Nebrich and eight from freshman Taryn Blue.

CARSON — Snow 7, Hedrick 6, McBride 5, Baldwin 3, Burleson 2, Shannon 2, McCubbins 1, Furr 1.
