SALISBURY — A man was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after police say he used his truck to ram another car off the road.

The incident started when the victim began to help a woman he knew move out of a home she shared with her ex-boyfriend due to a domestic violence situation, according to a spokesperson for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. As the two drove away from the home, the ex-boyfriend allegedly got into his truck and began to follow them down Ryder Avenue and Old Beatty Ford Road.

The driver of the truck allegedly got in between the two cars being driven by the victims. The two victims then tried a u-turn to get the truck out from between them, but the driver crossed a solid yellow line and forced his way in again. As the group was approaching the Interstate 85 exit ramp on Old Beatty Ford Road, the driver of the truck rear-ended the victim’s car, causing it to fishtail, according to the spokesperson. The driver then allegedly backed up and rammed into the driver’s side of the victim’s car, causing significant damage and puncturing two holes in the doors.

Deputies then responded to the home that the incident began at and found a red truck parked in the driveway with blue paint transferred onto the grill. The man in the home allegedly said that it could not have been him because the truck was not able to be driven, but a deputy reportedly measured two tow-hooks on the front of the truck and they matched the puncture holes in the victim’s car.

Deputies then acquired arrest warrants and returned to the home. Joshua Dalton Jackson, 23, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Jackson was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $4,500 bond.
