SPENCER — West Rowan’s girls basketball team bounced back from Tuesday’s draining loss to Lake Norman and won 65-43 at North Rowan on Wednesday.

North also had expended serious energy on Tuesday in beating an Albemarle team regarded as one of the best in 1A.

“I thought we bounced back well from a tough loss,” West coach Ashley Poole said. “It was a good thing that we knew we were playing a good team. We couldn’t just walk out there and beat North, we had to play well to beat North. We didn’t turn it over a lot, played hard on defense, but it still wasn’t easy. We’ve got some tired girls right now. There will be a lot of Epsom Salt.”

North (3-1) hung with the bigger Falcons for a quarter, but West moved out to a 35-21 lead by halftime, and stretched the lead a little more in the second half as foul trouble piled up for North’s front-court players.

West (3-1) got a season-high 18 points from Tiara Thompson. Emma Clarke and Lauren Arnold scored 15 each. De’Mya Phifer added eight.

Brittany Ellis scored 15 for the Cavaliers, while Bailee Goodlett got 13, but the Falcons could live with those numbers. Goodlett came in averaging 33.3 per game, while Ellis was averaging 25.7.

Dasia Elder scored 12, her fourth straight game in double figures. She made three 3-pointers and also blocked four shots.

Kriststyle Stockton had eight rebounds for North. Ellis had six rebounds. Goodlett had four assists.

West is home against East Rowan on Friday.
