Humane Society volunteer uses Christmas Happiness Fund to honor unsung heroes of the organization

SALISBURY — Wanting to say thank you is why Dottie Rebhan said she wanted to give to the Christmas Happiness Fund in honor of all the volunteers of the Humane Society of Rowan County.
This group is small, she noted, but they “work so hard and they get very little recognition.”
They are so dedicated and compassionate, she added, and while the volunteers don’t do the work they do for praise, Rebhan said, “it’s just nice for somebody every now and then to say ‘good job’.”
A volunteer herself, Rebhan was quick to say that the others do way more than she does, and she wanted to take this opportunity to “thank them for all the work they do helping abandoned, injured and homeless animals. I just want them to be thanked and recognized” and she hopes it means a lot to them that they are remembered.
These people, she shared, never take a break, are always smiling and always hoping they can provide help.
Rebhan concluded by expressing her thanks for the Christmas Happiness Fund, which gives people that chance to recognize those that don’t want that recognition for the good they do.
Rebhan’s and others’ donations pushed the total collected so far in the Christmas Happiness Fund north of $10,000.
The process to donate is simple. Individuals donate to the Christmas Happiness Fund, which is collected by the Salisbury Post. Typically, donations are made in honor or memory of someone.
All of the funds that the Post collects are given to the Rowan County Salvation Army, which issues gift cards to families to buy presents. Recipients register in advance through the Christmas Bureau, which hosts an application drive where families apply for multiple programs, including Christmas Happiness and the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree.
Donation forms have already started appearing in the newspaper. Any contributions collected after the drive concludes are rolled over into next year’s fund.
Contributions can be brought to the Salisbury Post, located at 131 W. Innes St., weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or mailed to Christmas Happiness c/o Salisbury Post, P.O. Box 4639, Salisbury, NC 28145.
Checks can be made payable to Christmas Happiness Fund and donations can also be placed in the Salisbury Post front door mail slot.
