CIAA basketball: LC loses road doubleheader

BLUEFIELD, W. Va. — Livingstone’s women’s basketball team played for the first time in 27 days on Saturday.
Not surprisingly, the Blue Bears were rusty in a 61-47 CIAA loss at Bluefield State.
The Blue Bears (1-2, 0-1) got 11 points from Jamiah Lane and 10 from Samiyah Briggs, but couldn’t overcome 22 turnovers. The Blue Bears shot 33 percent and only made one 3-pointer.
Azariah Binford led Bluefield State (7-1, 1-0) with 12 points. Bluefield won despite 28.8 percent shooting.
Icesis Nwaford, a freshman from Salisbury, came off the bench and scored four for Bluefield State.

MEN’S GAME
Livingstone’s men shot the lights out at Bluefield State’s Shott Gym, but still lost.
The Blue Bears were outscored 96-93 spite shooting 59 percent from the field.
Bluefield State (4-7, 1-1) won the game at the 3-point line,connecting 13 times from long distance.
Pharoah Lassiter scored 20 for the Blue Bears (2-6, 0-1). Detionne Leach had 15, Paul Tako scored 12, and Nathan Montague added 11.
Jordan Hinds scored 26 for the home team, including the jumper with 1:10 remaining that put Bluefield State ahead to stay.
Livingstone makes a road trip to northern CIAA schools next, with games on Dec. 14, 16 and 18 at Virginia Union, Bowie State and Lincoln.
