College women’s basketball: Bryant scores 26 for NC Central

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — North Carolina Central freshman Kyla Bryant (Salisbury) scored a career-best 26 points in Monday’s 70-67 loss to Jacksonville in the Swisher Center.
Bryant’s huge game included four 3-pointers, She had a career-high eight rebounds, one assist and one steal.
North Carolina Central (3-6) was in position to win on the road for the first time this season, but Jacksonville scored the game’s last nine points to pull it out.
Four NC Central players fouled out, and Jacksonville (4-5) was able to close the game on a 15-3 run.
Bryant made back-to-back 3-pointers in the second quarter to erase an early Jacksonville lead. She made another 3-pointer as time expired in the first half for a 30-all tie, Bryant made her fourth 3-pointer to start the second half.
NC Central led by nine with 6:24 left, but couldn’t hold off the Dolphins.
It’s never easy on the road. The Dolphins shot 20 more free throws than the Eagles.
Junior Edyn Battle led the Dolphins with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
NC Central will next play at UNC Greensboro on Thursday at 7 p.m.
