SALISBURY — During a recent visit that highlighted the synergy between educational advancement, school choice and Christian values, N.C. Rep. Harry Warren was given a tour of North Hills Christian School located in Salisbury.

North Hills Christian School is known for a dedication to embedding a biblical worldview throughout its educational programs, propelled by their mission of equipping the hearts and minds of students to impact the world for Christ.

During his visit, Warren expressed appreciation for the AIM program at North Hills, which serves the unique learning requirements of 20 percent of the students. This initiative reflects the school’s commitment to customizing education to fit individual needs, integrating this approach with Christian principles. Warren acknowledged the program for its effectiveness in nurturing an atmosphere that celebrates the distinct educational journeys of each student.

A significant portion of Warren’s visit highlighted the pivotal expansion of the Opportunity Scholarship Program in North Carolina, a move that enhances the educational landscape of the state. With the state’s recent budget amendments, the program, previously limited by income, now extends to all families regardless of their income, starting with the 2024-2025 academic year.

That broadened eligibility aligns with North Hills Christian School’s mission, to which Warren commented, “NHCS’s education philosophy embraces the intent of the Opportunity Scholarship program in an exemplary fashion.”

Warren’s statement underscores the school’s alignment with the scholarship’s aim to empower parents with the freedom to select schools that best fit their educational values and aspirations, including those seeking a faith-based education.

Warren’s conversation with Everett Sutherland, a high school junior at North Hills, shed light on career and technical education. Sutherland, who is pursuing automotive classes through dual enrollment, discussed his career aspirations, highlighting the school’s support for various educational pathways, including those outside of traditional college-bound routes.

Warren also met with multiple students, who have transferred from public schools. Their stories provided insights into the transformative impact of North Hills on their educational and personal development, emphasizing the value of a Christian education in today’s diverse educational landscape.

The representative was also given an extensive tour of the school’s current construction and expansion efforts, which are flourishing not only because of the increased enrollment attributed to the Opportunity Scholarship but also due to the generous support of alumni and donors who are deeply committed to the school’s mission. Warren had the opportunity to see firsthand the new STEAM lab, emblematic of the school’s dedication to broadening its educational programs. Warren praised North Hills for its strategic planning and the efficient use of resources, which highlight the strong community and alumni engagement in support of the school’s vision.

The school’s leadership shared their vision for the future, including a comprehensive 7-phase facility plan and the acquisition of additional land to accommodate future growth. Warren lauded these efforts, acknowledging the school’s commitment to maintaining an accessible, Christ-centered educational environment.

Warren’s visit to North Hills Christian School underscores the significant role that faith-based institutions play in North Carolina’s educational system. As the school continues to grow and adapt, it remains a beacon of how faith and education can coalesce to provide a comprehensive and nurturing environment for students.
