SALISBURY — If you’d told Catawba men’s basketball coach Rob Perron that standouts Javeon Jones and Kris Robinson were going to shoot 3-for-16 on Wednesday, he probably would have called in sick.
But it really didn’t matter.
Catawba is deep enough that even with some big guns quiet, the Indians were able to get it done by committee. They beat Anderson 88-76 for another South Atlantic Conference victory.
Kaleb Wallace, who averages 7.5 points, scored 16 on 7-for-10 shooting.
Justin Banks turned into Christian Laettner against Kentucky. He didn’t miss a shot. Banks, who averages 9 per game, bumped his production to 15 on a 7-for-7 night at Goodman Arena.
DeAngelo Epps had a pretty normal night for him with 12. Justin Mitchell, who averages 4.3 points, helped out with 10.
Catawba (5-1, 3-0) didn’t do anything amazing statistically, but the Indians did everything OK. They shot 48.6 percent, made nine 3-pointers and had small advantages as far as grabbing offensive boards and limiting turnovers. Catawba’s advantage at the 3-point line negated Anderson getting to the foul line more often.
Catawba amassed 16 steals, and steals often lead to easy points.
AJ Wright led Anderson (5-5, 0-2) with 15 points.
Anderson 38 38 — 76
Catawba 44 44 — 88
CATAWBA — Wallace 16, Banks 15, Epps 12, Mitchell 10, White 8, Tinsley 7, Robinson 5, Gerald 4, Bivins 4, Nelson 3, Jones 2, Thomas 2.
