DENTON — North Rowan’s b0ys started the unusual combination of Jo Jo Tarver, Jaemias Morrow, Jerricho Charleston, Jeremiah Alford and KaMahri Feamster in Friday’s Central Carolina Conference opener at Denton.
That’s an unusual group in that it meant leading scorers George Maxwell and Amir Alexander, talented Jayden Polk and touted newcomers Dillion Mosley and Carter Williams were coming off the bench.
The Cavaliers (3-2, 1-0) showed how much depth they have by getting off to a sensational start. They jumped on South Davidson 14-0 in the first five minutes and cruised to a 73-44 blowout victory.
North’s opening possession demonstrated patience, with Charleston getting to the rim for a layup after 40 seconds worth of passes. On North’s second possession, Charleston swished a corner 3-pointer.
A steal and layup by Tarver and a wing 3-pointer by Morrow made it 10-0. After Feamster and Alford tallied on offensive rebounds, all five North starters had scored, and the Wildcats (2-6, 0-1) were in a hole they never got out of.
Maxwell led the Cavaliers with 15 points. Alexander scored 11. Alford and Tarver got nine, while Mosley had eight.
North made five 3-pointers and was 14-for-20 from the foul line.
Tanner Walters scored 13 for the Wildcats.
