High school girls basketball roundup: Four Rowan teams win

Tuesday’s games ….
CONCORD — After four minutes, West Rowan’s girls basketball team had 25 points in the scorebook and all five starters had contributed.
That’s a pace for 200 points.
The Falcons slowed down a bit after that, but they pummeled Concord 91-28 for another lopsided South Piedmont Conference victory.
Eleven players scored for the Falcons (6-1, 4-0), who basically turned the game into a layup line with their pressure defense. They took very few outside shots, scoring continuously with point-blank 2s.
The second half was played with a running clock. West had 70 points with 5:35 left in the third quarter.
Lauren Arnold had 11 points in the first three minutes and scored 17. Emma Clarke had 14. Also in double figures were Tiara Thompson with 12 and Mya Edwards with 11.
Christmas tournament seeds are based on pre-Christmas records. West will be the No. 2 seed for the event behind unbeaten A.L. Brown. West will play No. 7 seed South Rowan in the first round.

GRANITE QUARRY — Isis Smith scored a career-high 14 points to lead East Rowan’s girls to a 34-26 win against South Rowan.
Smith’s previous career best was six points.
South (1-6, 0-4) did a good job defensively against East shooters Hannah Waddell and Mary Church, but Smith’s inside play made the difference.
South took a 24-23 lead to the fourth quarter in the South Piedmont Conference contest, but East held the Raiders to two points during the final eight minutes.
Waddell made two 3-pointers and scored seven for the Mustangs (4-4, 2-3).
Kynlee Dextraze scored nine for the Raiders.
South will be seeded seventh in the Christmas tournament, while the Mustangs will be in the No. 5 or No. 6 slot.

HUNTERSVILLE — Carson’s girls led at halftime, but Lake Norman Charter rallied to take a 39-25 South Piedmont Conference victory.
Carson took a 16-12 lead to the break, but the Knights (2-7, 1-4) dominated the third quarter to get their first league win.
Freshman Rylee Hedrick scored 11 to lead Carson (0-7, 0-5). Emma Carpenter had eight points.
Abby Courtney scored 13 for the Knights.
Carson will be the No. 8 seed for the Christmas tournament and will play A.L. Brown in the first round.

TYRO — MaKayla Noble had 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists as Salisbury blew out West Davidson 65-18 for a Central Carolina Conference victory.
Jamyrah Cherry had 18 points and seven rebounds. Shamya Arnold had six assists and five steals. Keira Spruill had eight points, all in a flurry in the third quarter.
The Hornets (4-3, 2-0) led 20-4 early in the second quarter and cruised to their fourth straight victory. Salisbury went ahead 49-9 late in the third quarter to trigger a running clock.
The Green Dragons are 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the CCC.

THOMASVILLE — Brittany Ellis tied her career high with 33 points as North Rowan romped 56-3 against Thomasville in a Central Carolina Conference game.
Thomasville (0-5, 0-3) trailed 29-0 in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs were able to end a long scoring drought. They were shut out 63-0 by Salisbury last week.
North led 38-3 at the half.
Dasia Elder scored nine for the Cavaliers.
North (5-2, 2-0) was able to bounce back from a 51-50 non-conference loss at Central Davidson on Monday. Ellis scored 27 in that one.
