SALISBURY — The Rowan County Board of Commissioners will review the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for this past fiscal year during their upcoming meeting. Typically, the board meetings are held on Monday, but the upcoming meeting has been moved to Tuesday because of the New Year’s Day holiday.

During the review, the commissioners will receive a presentation about the financial report from an outside auditor and review “financial performed indicators” and author a response to the state’s Local Government Commission about the water fund. The agenda for the meeting did not state what the county needed to address with the water funds.

The presentation is part of the state’s requirements that local governments undergo annual audits of their books and records to ensure compliance with all state and federal agency regulations.

The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday and will be held at the Rowan County Administration building located at 130 W. Innes St. in Salisbury. The other agenda items that will be discussed include:

  • The commissioners will recognize the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners Board of Trustees.
  • The commissioners will continue a legislative hearing regarding a rezoning request from the owner of Tiger World. The request would create a conditional district, allowing for the park’s expansion as well as making it a conforming use. The request was recommended by the planning board during its September meeting. The hearing was originally opened during the Nov. 20 meeting and was continued during the last board meeting to allow the commissioners to discuss ways they could regulate the rezoning to maintain the aesthetics proposed by Tiger World’s owner even if the property was sold, without over-regulating request. • The commissioners will continue a quasi-judicial hearing on a special use permit requested by the owner of Tiger World. The permit would allow for the park to create a recreational vehicle park and “glamping” sites.
  • The commissioners will hear about citizens who applied for membership of local advisory boards and potentially approve their appointments.
