This weekend, nearly 1,700 locals to graduate

There will be no shortage of pomp and circumstance Saturday as 1,330 seniors become graduates of seven Rowan-Salisbury School System high schools.
The procession of processions begins early, with East Rowan High’s seniors filing into Catawba College’s Keppel Auditorium at 8 a.m.
East will be one of five schools with students tossing their tassels at Catawba. Its graduates will be followed by those from South Rowan, North Rowan, Henderson Independent and, finally, Salisbury.
West Rowan and Jesse Carson will hold graduation at the respective schools.
Rowan County Early College held commencement May 17.
A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis will host commencement for its 343 graduates at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Kannapolis Performing Arts Center on campus.
Here are details on this weekend’s graduations:
Carson High will hold commencement at 10 a.m. Saturday in the school’s gymnasium.
Student speakers will be Jeremy Keoboupha, Jacob Fink, Nickolas Thornton, Micala Hall, and Christian Eller.
Junior marshals will be Nicholas Barlowe, Keaton Brower, Rhonda Cheshire, Rebecca Corl, Savannah Deal, Morgan Hartsell, Olivia Horning, Kylie Kluttz, Lyndsey Moore, Brooke Myall, Olivia Richard, Kellie Roberts, Jordan Vanvoorhis and Megan Yates.
Carson has 263 graduating seniors.
East Rowan will hold its graduation ceremony at 8 a.m. Saturday in Catawba College’s Keppel Auditorium.
Junior marshals will be Victor Pereira, Lauren Thomas, Elizabeth Weaver, Evan Rogers, Rebecca Agner, Emily Hammer, Jordan Owen, Kayla Swaringen, Sarah Mitchell, Katelyn Buffett, Timothy Ludwick, and Jessica Yelland.
East has 222 graduating seniors.
Henderson will host commencement at 6 p.m. Saturday in Keppel Auditorium. The school has 17 graduating seniors.
North Rowan will host graduation at 4 p.m. Saturday ceremony in Keppel Auditorium.
Graduation speakers will be William Gilland, valedictorian, and William Robertson, salutatorian.
Junior marshals will be Alex Billingsley, chief marshal, and Jacquelyn Batten, Dylan Benfield, Simon Connolly, Lindsey Hinson, Summer Hall, Tyler Mulkey, Morgan Overcash, Veronica Sanchez-Rebollar, Jayland Sanders, Cierra Sifford, Brendan Smith and Kelsey Walker.
North has 159 seniors graduating.
Salisbury will hold its graduation ceremony at 8 p.m. Saturday in Keppel Auditorium.
Student commencement speakers will be Iman Crawford, Alexander Wimmer, William Overcash, Katelyn Storey, Vashti Usry, Skyler Mikkelson and Margaret Caroline Graham
Junior marshals will be Samantha Washko, Eleanor Alcorn, John Canipe, Alexandra Drye, Katherine Grant, Nicholas Greene, Charlotte Kaufmann, Alana Koontz, Emma Labovitz, Savannah Mowery, Steven Nguyen, Erin Roy, Lauren Roy, McKenzie Stevens and Zachary Sukkasem.
Salisbury has 190 seniors graduating.
South Rowan will hold commencement at noon Saturday in Keppel Auditorium.
Commencement speakers will be Luke Rary and Madison Sides.
Junior marshals will be co-chiefs Sarah Crawley, Eric Goldston, Haley Leazer, Rachel Lyman and Jordan Wise, as well as Nicholas Milem, Brock Miller, Miranda Raymond, Ashton Schoen, Elizabeth Simmons and Leah Weaver.
South has 225 seniors graduating.
West Rowan will hold graduation at 8 a.m. Saturday at the school’s football stadium.
Speakers will be Sara Holmes, student council executive president, Clarke Phifer, senior class president, and academic speakers Kayla Boley and Lauren Gaskill.
Junior marshals will be Dana Blackburn, Wendy Cheng, John Corriher, Gloria Jacquez, Katelin Johnson, Alexis Kemp, Jacob Kennedy, Linh Le, Rebecca Parker, Corbin Phifer, Samantha Rayl, Kevin Shaver and Bailey Stolsworth.
West has 254 seniors graduating.
A.L. Brown will hold commencement at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Kannapolis Performing Arts Center. Tickets are required for admission and will be distributed to students Thursday.
Keynote speaker will be Amy Privette Perko, executive director of the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics since 2005 and a 1983 graduate of A.L. Brown High School.
The valedictorian will deliver a valedictory address.
