ROWAN COUNTY — Several severe storm systems rolled through Rowan County on Tuesday causing power outages, flash flooding and property damage, but area residents may not be out of the woods just yet.

Rowan County Weather Chief Forecaster Steve Monday said on Wednesday that storms are likely to return to Rowan County by week’s end.

“The majority of the county could see another round of severe weather Friday as we have a slight risk for severe weather,” Monday said in an email.

According to Monday, the main threats are “strong winds” with potential gusts as high as 40 mph and some localized flooding being possible due to the already saturated ground.

Monday added that rainfall accumulation will be much less than Tuesday’s storms — only around a half an inch to an inch.

“(The) biggest concern will be potential for downed trees and power lines from the already saturated soil,” Monday said. “Localized flooding will be a threat even with less rainfall due to the already saturated soil.”
