Blotter for Jan. 13: Deputies called after bullet found in front door of home

SALISBURY — Police are investigating after a bullet was fired into a home in Rowan County on Wednesday morning.

Deputies were called to the 400 block of Efird Road after a woman reported hearing a loud bang early in the morning before finding a bullet lodged in her front door, a spokesperson for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said. 

The woman said that she had gotten up at approximately 5 a.m., and when she went to go back to bed she heard a loud bang. Later that morning, she went to step outside and noticed that her screen door had been damaged. On second look, she found a bullet lodged into the front door of her home.

The victim said that there was no reason for anyone to target her home. Deputies believe that the shooting was either an accident or random incident and are continuing to investigate.

In Salisbury Police Department reports:

  • An assault occurred in the 1800 block of South Main Street at 1:02 a.m. on Jan. 11.
  • Vandalism occurred in the 1000 block of East Innes Street between 12:30 p.m. and 2:48 p.m. on Jan. 11.
  • A larceny occurred in the 100 block of West Fisher Street between 2:40 a.m. and 4:07 a.m. on Jan. 12. The total estimated loss was $10.
  • A person suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the 300 block of Craige Street. The victim told police that they had accidentally shot themselves. A spokesperson for the police department said that the victim refused to answer any questions about the incident. The victim was transported to Rowan Regional Hospital before being flown to Atrium Health in Charlotte for treatment.
  • Armani Justice Stewart, 24, was charged with assault and battery or affray on Jan. 11. The arrest was in relation to an incident that occurred on the same day at 12:40 a.m. in the 2300 block of Statesville Boulevard.

In Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reports:

  • Drug possession occurred at North Interstate 85 at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 10.
  • Vandalism occurred at Dooley Road between 4 p.m. on Jan. 5 and 11 a.m. on Jan. 10.
  • Dante Marquis Mitchell, 33, was charged with stalking and communicating threats on Jan. 10.
  • Jeffery Scott Fultz, 47, was charged with violation of a protective order, two counts of making obscene or profane calls and communicating threats on Jan. 10.
  • Ryan Tyler Singleton, 40, was charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on Jan. 10.
  • Paul Douglas Welch, 55, was charged with fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle on Jan. 10.
