High school girls basketball: Salisbury wins in MLK Classic

McLEANSVILLE — Salisbury’s girls relied on their defense and beat Northeast Guilford 47-28 in the MLK Classic on Monday.

It wasn’t an easy assignment for the Hornets, as they played the tournament host on its home floor.

Northeast Guilford (6-5) is a pretty good 3A that competes in a league with stout teams such as Dudley and Ben L. Smith.

MaKayla Noble had five blocked shots for the Hornets (11-4), while Jamyrah Cherry had three.

Noble also had 14 points and five steals. She boosted her career points total to 925.

Cherry had 11 points, six assists and four steals. She’s scored in double figures in 13 of Salisbury’s 15 games.

Shamya Arnold helped out with six points, six assists and a team-high five rebounds.
