CHINA GROVE — South Rowan and Carson had combined for zero South Piedmont Conference wins prior to Tuesday’s meeting, so someone was going to break though.

It was the Raiders — by a lot. They won 61-31.

South coach Alex Allen had success on the court where she starred for the Cougars a few years ago.

“We had a chance tonight to work on us — and we needed that,” Allen said. “And everyone scored. That’s always good.”

South (3-10, 1-6)  previously had won non-conference games at South Stanly and at Mount Pleasant. All three South wins have been by at least 16 points.

Carson (0-13, 0-7) is still looking for its first win of the season for first-year head coach Chloe Monroe.

Only one 3-pointer was made in the game. Avery Fisher connected from the bonus line for South.

South’s Ari Alston and Kynlee Dextraze had an advantage inside and combined for 13 points in the first quarter. They helped the Raiders take a 17-8 lead.

With a 21-point second quarter, the Raiders moved to a comfortable 38-17 halftime edge.

Carson’s best quarter was the third, as the Cougars outscored South 12-11, but then South held Carson to two points in the fourth quarter.

Dextraze, an early Lenoir-Rhyne softball commit, scored 12 points, her fourth straight game in double figures. He next bucket will give the junior 500 career points.

Alston had her best game of the season with 11 points. Ella Morgan also scored 11.

Emma Carpenter scored eight for the Cougars. Her career high is eight, and she’s scored eight four times this season.

Julia Burleson and Brooklyn McBride scored six points each for Carson.
