Area Sports Briefs: Wonders split at South Iredell

TROUTMAN — A.L. Brown’s boys basketball team (8-6, 1-2) won its first Greater Metro Conference game on Tuesday by beating South Iredell 61-51.
Nazir Reaves scored 18 to lead the Wonders. Masiah Bennermon scored 14, Larenz Stevenson had 10, and Kadan Williams added nine.

A.L. Brown’s girls (9-5, 0-3) lost 64-55 to the Vikings.
The Wonders have no luck against South Iredell. The bus broke down for the third year in a row making the trip, and the Wonders lost for the third straight time. An injury to Makenzie Goode-Roberts hurt.
Sadie Faulkner and Ayanni Flood scored 17 points each for the Wonders. Trinity Robinson added eight. The Wonders made six 3-pointers.

North Hills
The North Hills boys basketball team fell 99-46 to United Faith Charter Academy in Charlotte on Tuesday.
Champ Hayden was under the weather but scored 22 points for the Eagles (12-9) and made two 3-pointers. Jerrod Drye scored 10.
DJ Boyce scored 24 for UFCA (16-6).
NORTH HILLS — Hayden 22, Drye 10, Strong 6, Strickland 6, Rodgers 2.
• North Hills was overmatched in the girls game and lost 81-5. Addison Shehan scored four for NH.
HS baseball
East Rowan announced that pitcher/catcher Joe Burleyson has committed to Catawba. Burleyson was East Rowan’s catcher as a junior, but he was a pitcher for the Rowan County American Legion team.
Local golf
GARS members played at Sapona Golf Club in Lexington.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Larry Petrea with a net of 74.06. Low ‘B’ Flight player was Bobby Clark with a net of 67.96. Low ‘C’ Flight player was Tom Dodge with a net of 66.26.
Low ‘D’ Flight player was Phil Rollins with a net of 71.46.
Petrea shot an 81 to take low gross. Tom Dodge won low net. Bobby Clark, 84, shot an 84 to equal his age.
Salisbury Academy
The Salisbury Academy jayvee girls basketball team won 35-4 against Concordia Lutheran in Conover.
Jillian Jarrell scored 16 points, while Hadley Haines had six.
Salisbury Academy will host Statesville Christian today at 4 p.m.

The Jaguars will play at 5 p.m. against Statesville Christian today.

Sixth-grader Jream McLeod scored 10 points. Anna Kate Goodman had eight. The team has outscored opponents 80-10.
