SPENCER — South Stanly guard Gavyn Miller had himself a night on Wednesday.
The 5-foot-11 junior made a buzzer-beating shot for his 27th and 28th points and lifted the Bulls to a 65-63 victory in North Rowan’s gym.
“They held for the last shot with about 30 seconds left and Miller made the right play,” North head coach Jason Causby said.
South Stanly (13-2) is having a super season and is 10th in the 1A West RPI rankings, but North (6-6) stayed in the game all the way with solid shooting from Amir Alexander (21 points) and George Maxwell, who scored a season-high 17.
“It was a very competitive game, but we had some mental mistakes at critical times,” Causby said.
It was tied after a quarter. The visitors held one-point leads at halftime and after three quarters.
Maxwell scored seven in the fourth quarter, including North’s only 3-pointer of the night, but it wasn’t quite enough.
North dropped to 18th in the 1A West RPI rankings.
