ROWAN COUNTY — Six people and two dogs were displaced by an early-morning fire in Rowan County on Saturday that required at least 10 different fire departments to extinguish.

The fire began at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at a home in the 100 block of Eastbrook Circle. Union Fire Department was the first on the scene and found heavy fire coming from the attic. By 3 a.m., the fire had been upgraded to a three-alarm fire and multiple other fire departments responded to the incident.

The fire was most likely started by a malfunctioning HVAC unit, a spokesperson for the Red Cross said. The six people and two dogs that lived in the home were displaced and the Red Cross is assisting them. No one was injured in the incident.

Other fire departments that assisted with the firefighting efforts include Granite Quarry, West Liberty, Millers Ferry, Faith, East Spencer, Rockwell Rural, South Salisbury, Gold Hill and Spencer fire departments.
