GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Tusculum women’s basketball team is experiencing a pretty dismal season, but Catawba gets everyone’s best shot.

The eighth-ranked Indians won 90-81 on the road on Saturday even with the Pioneers enjoying their best shooting night of the season with 49.2 percent accuracy.

Catawba pulled down a whopping 24 offensive rebounds, had an 18-11 edge in the turnover battle and shot 43.6 percent.

It wasn’t quite as close as it sounds. A lot of people got minutes for the Indians. Catawba led by 16 in the fourth quarter, but Tusculum scored 28 in the fourth quarter and had a run at the end.

Catawba (12-2, 7-1) stayed right behind Lenoir-Rhyne in the South Atlantic Conference race. Both teams have one loss. L-R has one more win.

Lyrik Thorne scored 23 to pace the Indians. Sara McIntosh had 17. Janiya Downs (South Rowan) had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Mary Spry (Carson) made her only field-goal attempt — a 3-pointer— and was 4-for-4 at the foul line for seven points in 10 minutes of action.

Ni’Kiah Chesterfield had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Pioneers (3-12, 1-8).
