SALISBURY — A Salisbury man has been arrested after police say he fled from a traffic stop after becoming agitated with the police officer.

Officers with the Salisbury Police Department initially responded to a shots fired call in the area of the 800 block of East Reeves Street at approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday. There, they found a gray Toyota sitting in the middle of the road, according to a spokesperson for the department. An officer then turned his blue lights on behind the car and the driver of the Toyota pulled into a nearby driveway.

As an officer got out of the car, he noticed the driver attempting to stuff something between the driver’s seat and the console, the spokesperson said. During the stop, the driver allegedly got angry at the officers, eventually refusing to talk and rolling up his window, at which point an officer reportedly asked him to step out of the car.

The driver then put the Toyota in drive and drove away. Police chased him for a short distance before he eventually came to a stop in the 600 block of Lafayette Circle. There, they arrested the driver and searched the vehicle, reportedly finding a bag filled with what appeared to be crack cocaine stuck in between the driver’s seat and the console.

The driver has been identified as 31-year-old Marquise Sential Robinson and was charged with fleeing to elude, resisting a public officer and possession of a schedule II controlled substance. Robinson has previously been convicted of multiple crimes, including assault by pointing a gun, possession of a firearm by a minor, delivering or selling a schedule IV controlled substance and riot and civil disorder.
